We all think we know who Shakespeare was. But then we find out that the Stratford man left no books or manuscripts in his will; that we have no documents penned by his hand; that he could barely sign his name; and that his daughters were illiterate. Was this ill-educated Stratford man the real Bard, or was he someone else? Ralph explores the data.

17th Earl of Oxford Edward de Vere as Shakespeare is detailed in the 2011 movie "Anonymous" -- and I'm surprised at how vitriolic some of the response is to this exploration. For some people, I've noticed, it's heresy to even think about questioning Will's identity. Lots of people really seem to want Shakespeare to be that dude from Stratford -- but it really just doesn't add up. I's actually nonsensical if you think about it realistically. de Vere makes much more sense. Anonymous, indeed. Here's the trailer.

But why does it matter? Well, because this single individual has been credited with crafting a unifying language for an emerging world super-power (England) and it's just absurd. Queen Elizabeth's court was filled with high intellectuals holding vast spiritual and ideological ambitions for the planet. Her court mystic, John Dee, was instrumental in guiding many of her decisions, and it is widely believed that the idea for a New Atlantis emerged from the encounters John Dee had with otherworldly beings. Surrounding the court was a secret salon of very brilliant and educated philosophers and intellectuals, to include Francis Bacon and de Vere, who not only devised a new language but who envisioned where to create the New Atlantis: America. And their influence help launch explorations and then settlements into America for these ends. All envisioned from the intellectuals deep within the think-tanks of Elizabethan court life.

But what really became of Marie Antoinette's children, especially her last son, Louis Charles?

Allegedly Luis Charles was, at some point in his imprisonment, smuggled out of France and farmed around from place-to-place until he finally found safe refuge in America under the name L.C. Payseur (get it? L.C.? Louis Charles?) where he acquired an unthinkably vast fortune through banking and corporate networks which survive to this day.

One online commenter summarized it simply:

See, the Payseurs were French royalty – descendants of Marie Antoinette, specifically – who had fled France in the face of violent revolution. In other words, the Payseur bloodline stems from the Merovingian Dynasty.

So who are the Merovingians?

I read the "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" books. The Merovingians are the ones Baigent, Leigh and Lincoln chased around through history in their explorations (which Dan Brown re-appropriated for his "DaVinci Code" books). The Merovingians are purported to be the Christ bloodlines deriving out of Mary Magdalene's exile to France.
